LASER HAIR REMOVAL FOR MEN AND WOMEN AND ALL SKIN TYPES
Laser hair removal is one of our most commonly requested procedures and we have two types of dedicated hair removal systems. We use medical grade Candela lasers and are able to treat most skin types. As a rule, as long as your hair is darker than your skin, we can treat you. Unfortunately, we cannot treat grey, light blonde white hair as the laser targets and heats the colour of your hair which ultimately prevents it growing.
To assess your suitability for treatment, we provide a complimentary consultation and we provide great value pricing throughout the year. The key to successful hair reduction is treatment consistency within the right stages of the hair growth cycle*
Our experienced laser aestheticians will tailor a program for you to ensure the best possible results.
*The number of treatments required depends on your hair colour, your skin colour, the thickness of your hair as well as the treatment cycle. The greater the contrast between skin and hair colour, the fewer treatments are required. Darker skin with dark hair requires more laser treatments on a lower setting to avoid damage to the skin.
WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME AFTER LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
There should be no downtime after laser hair removal, but you must follow the post-care instructions carefully which include avoidance of sun exposure for 2 weeks, and steam rooms, sauna or heavy exercise for 48 hours. Additional heat to the treatment area and could risk causing complications from the treatment.
DOER HAIR REMOVAL HURT?
Our lasers use cooling technology to make your treatments as comfortable as possible. Most people find the treatment painless or feel minimal discomfort.
You can expect some erythema (redness) and slight oedema (swelling) after a laser treatment but this will self-resolve after a day or two.
No - Hair removal lasers are attracted to the pigment in your hair and hair follicle. By increasing the pigment in your skin through sun exposure, sun beds or fake tanning products there is a possibility that you will overheat/burn.
Melanin injections are also a contraindication to laser treatments.
The number of treatments required is dependent on your skin and hair colour, the thickness of your hair and maintaining your treatment cycle. Some hormonal problems (for example poly cystic ovaries) can increase the rate of hair growth and the thickness of the hair and will require more treatments. Generally, the darker your skin and the thicker your hair the more treatments you will require.
Treatments are usually spaced at 4-6-week intervals and this is determined by your hair and skin type and the specific part of the body being treated. The hair growth cycle varies in different body areas, so it is important to take this into consideration in order to obtain the best results. Generally, an average of 8-10 treatments will ensure q good result but darker skins will need significantly more.
WILL I BE COMPLETELY FREE OF HAIR AFTER TREATMENT?
No laser clinic can guarantee to remove all hair but with the right treatment cycle we can normally achieve around 90% hair reduction. Some people need an additional maintenance treatment roughly 6 monthly.
Yes – using medical grade lasers we can treat dark skin as long as your hair colour is darker than your skin colour. Our experienced staff will assess your suitability for treatment and determine the appropriate settings. We use a Candela GentleYag for darker skin tones. The settings will change during the treatment schedule to obtain the best possible results.
Lasers work by heating the pigment in your hair which in turn destroys the hair follicle preventing further growth. They are ineffective on grey, white or light blonde hair as there is little or no pigment for the laser to target.
We cannot treat over a tattoo as the laser will target the pigment in the design and damage the tattoo. We can treat around it however.
No. There is no absolute data on the risk or otherwise to the baby in having laser treatment when pregnant or breast feedings and so we prefer to stay on the side of caution.
Pregnancy hormones also increase the risk of hyperpigmentation caused through the heat of the laser which can lead to an undesirable aesthetic outcome.
