ULTIMATE GUIDE TO SKIN TIGHTENING TREATMENTS
When considering skin tightening treatments, it's important to first look at the different layers and depths of your skin. It’s not always enough to just tighten the fine lines and wrinkles on the surface as it is the deeper structures that provide lift and support. All skin tightening treatments in some way cause controlled trauma to the skin and it is this which stimulates your body to produce collagen and elastin to repair itself.
In turn, this is what creates the tightened skin.At Ultimate Skin and Body, we advocate combination treatments to address the different layers. The most popular combinations are HIFU plus Fractional RF, Micro-needling or Fraxel.
The modality will be chosen according to a client’s skin concerns in addition to tightening. The two treatments combined treat both the upper level of the skin (working on fine lines and wrinkles) and the deeper SMAS layer (creating a lifting and tightening of deeper tissues). Combined, they provide the optimum result for clients and both treatments can be carried out on the same day. At Ultimate

COMBINATION TREATMENT FOR ACNE
The skin is a complex system with many layers and different issues can occur in each layer. TREATING ACNE - PART 2
As I mentioned in PART 1 of my blog, the importance of a treatment plan when treating acne or breakout-prone skin is critical to supporting not only skin health but mental health also.
A plan is defined as a detailed proposal for doing or achieving something. In the case of skin health, there is no one quick fix or cure-all which is why a plan is essential to achieving your skin goals.
You could think of it as a personalised journey that has the ability to be changed or adapted under the guidance of an expert Dermal Therapist, to achieve your best skin possible.
A lot of us may think that we drink so much water, how possibly could our skin be dehydrated? Well in actual fact only about 13% of the water we drink has an effect on our skin because generally the water we drink will feed a lot of other components in our body first such as our major organs, our brain and our kidneys before it does anything for our skin, the other 87% of the water for our skin comes from our acid mantle.READ MORE...

As a mother of a teenage girl who suffers from acne, nothing breaks my heart more than seeing how much it affects her confidence and self esteem. After a bad breakout, my outgoing, bubbly little girl is withdrawn, emotional, anti-social and lacks her usual spark. My main concern is that during adolescence, our children are growing and developing their personalities and experiencing dramatic physical and psychological changes. It is a time when the need for acceptance from their friends is at an all time high and physical appearance unfortunately plays a huge part in this. Acne sufferers have a much higher risk of developing mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and even suicidal thoughts. Scary right?READ MORE...
WHY NOBODY HAS FACELIFTS ANYMORE
Have you noticed that you just don’t hear about the traditional facelift as you may once have? Even a mere decade ago, most people knew someone who had gone under the knife (whether they knew we knew or not!).
Luckily for us all, an exciting new phase of cosmetic procedures and the development of advanced technologies means we can bypass the surgeon’s scalpel and still achieve excellent – and arguably better – results. The great thing about this progress in treatment options is that we don’t have to remove or take away from the skin; we are now working to transform and correct the skin at multiple levels naturally. This can be done through stimulating collagen and elastin (responsible for keeping our skin firm and free of wrinkles), reducing fat pockets in unwanted areas and adding subtle volume where it has been lost to time.
ADULT ACNE: WHAT CAUSES IT AND HOW TO (FINALLY) OVERCOME IT
At minimum it’s frustrating and at worst it can feel downright unfair and a pretty depressing. We’re talking about adult acne. Often, you just get your acne under control and then for no apparent reason you break out all over again. So, why are you still dealing with acne? The truth is, no one has a definitive answer as to how adult acne differs from acne in our teens, but we’re here to inform you on the main causes at play and what you can do to take back control. So, let’s cut straight to the cause. The opening of a hair follicle (a pore) can become obstructed by dead skin cells and/or oil. As the oil gland continues to produce oil, the blockage prevents it from reaching the surface of the skin and causes a swelling under the surface. Eventually this will result in small cysts (lumps) under the skin or even the oil gland to rupture which releases oil and dead skin cells into the dermis. The dermis does not like this and sets up an inflammatory reaction (redness and swelling). The bacteria in the hair follicle then create infection and viola, you have you have yourself an acne pustule (pimple).READ MORE...
GETTING EVEN WITH PIGMENTATION
We all love a glowing, even complexion, but there’s a culprit keeping many of us from experiencing this – especially in Australia where avoiding sun exposure seems like mission impossible. We’re talking about pigmentation – think Melasma (also known as ‘pregnancy mask), uneven skin tone, brown patches, sun spots and age spots. Basically, all the discolouration that usually has you reaching for your foundation to give your skin a consistent tone.READ MORE...

The professionals at Ultimate Skin & Body truly enjoy getting to know our patients as people and hearing about their lives. WHAT EXACTLY IS ANTI-AGEING?
We hear all the talk about anti-ageing from so many different sources that it actually gets quite confusing! So what exactly is anti-ageing all about? Is it about Food? Supplements? Hormones? Exercise? Treatments?
Well, the truth is, all the above have some role to play in anti-ageing and every single one of us has varying needs, concerns, and preferred anti-ageing strategies. If you are reading this blog then it’s fairly certain that you have already decided that aesthetic treatments have a part to play in your anti-ageing regimen.
However, let’s cover some of the others too, as a combination approach will always provide the best results.
WHEN EXCESSIVE SWEATING WEARS YOU DOWN
When you live in Australia (and especially Queensland) perspiration, and excessive sweating can be a problem. But what if you sweat when it’s cool? Or despite the air-conditioning? Excessive sweating (also known as hyperhidrosis) affects many people but can be particularly embarrassing for those in the public eye such as presenters, teachers, waiters or waitresses and dancers… in fact, anyone that has to appear in public and suffers from profuse sweating will benefit from anti-sweat treatments.READ MORE...
TECH NECK AND DOUBLE CHINS
Smartphones and tablets are causing sagging skin and wrinkles in younger generations than previously.“Tech neck” as it is called, is caused by long periods of looking downward at our devices. It causes structural problems in our neck and spine as well as creating jowls and sagging skin on our neck.It can also cause a deep crease just above the collar bone.
In other words, the problem of wrinkles and sagging of the jowls and neck that used to begin in late middle age have now become a problem earlier.
So what is the remedy? Without a doubt, exercises to improve posture and less use of mobiles and tablets will all help. However, at a clinic level we can also offer several treatments to assist...
THE BATTLE WITH ACNE
80% of people are affected by acne at some time in their lives, but while some people are lucky and able to resolve the problem quickly, for others, acne can lead to a life long battle leading to low self-esteem and lack of confidence.
It is no surprise or coincidence that most people see acne develop during puberty. This is because of the hormone changes that come with puberty and stimulate the sebaceous oil glands to make more sebum (oil). When there is too much sebum, it clogs the pores and leads to acne.
Adult on-set acne is a condition that affects more women than men and is also caused by hormonal changes – this time through menopause, ceasing to take the contraceptive pill and even stress which can cause changes in hormones too. Acne of all varieties often appears on the face, neck, shoulders, upper back, and chest and the heat of the Australian climate certainly contributes to making acne worse.
